After commencing the use of Lamborghinis and Ferraris for roads patrol, Dubai police have enrolled a robotic officer, the first in a unit that targets to make up a quarter of the police force by 2030.

The robotic cop was at attention pose on Wednesday night at the base of the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa, as tourists and passersby took selfie photos with it.

The robot putting on a police cap and using wheels for mobility, it has a computer touch-screen on its chest that can be used to report crimes or asjnabout speeding tickets.

Head of Smart Services of Dubai police, Brigadier Khaled Al-Razzooqi, said their target is to fill a quarter of the police force with the robots by 2030.

It (robot), is to be deployed majorly at tourist centres, equipped with a camera that sends live pictures to the operation rooms and can identify wanted suspects.

The main aim is to “find a new way to deal with people”, said Razzooqi.

He also asserted that the robots cannot replace humans on making arrests among other tasks.
